It seems as though every week we are confronted with yet another computer virus. This week is nothing new; MyDoom.F has hit its peak as of yesterday, infecting personal computers and annoying users once again.
Unleashed last week, MyDoom.F is not spreading nearly as quickly as its other MyDoom forefathers. However, it is proving quite powerful because of its ability to erase Microsoft Word and Excel files as well as movies and photos that were previously stored on infected computers.
“MyDoom.F has been picking up pace since Monday and Tuesday,” stated anti-virus research firm F-Secure manager Mikko Hypponen in a Reuters report. “The disturbing thing is that it has a destructive payload. We haven’t seen a destructive virus like this in a while.”
Arriving in email inboxes, MyDoom.F subject headers include:
“Your Credit Card,” “Approved,” and “You use illegal file sharing…Your IP was logged.” Security agencies have said it once and they’ll say it again-don’t open emails or any accompanying attachments if you are unsure of the sender’s identity.
The original MyDoom virus was born in January “and is considered the most virulent outbreak ever,” according to Reuters. It had major impact on computers and their users all over the world.
These disastrous computer viruses are becoming nothing new. Before you know it, we will be faced with MyDoom.Z. What will come next?!
