Business Development Manager

Summarized Job Description:

The New Business Development Manager is an intelligent, results-driven individual, capable of cultivating and closing his/her own qualified leads. This person is responsible for selling Web Ad.vantage’s online marketing and advertising services to Chief Marketing Officers, Vice Presidents or Directors of Marketing (or Sales) in mid-size and Fortune 1000+ companies ($10M in annual revenue and up) located in the Baltimore/Washington/Philadelphia region or nationally, depending upon the vertical. Verticals to target include pharmaceuticals, health & wellness, travel & tourism, and products or services sold to 55+/Boomers. Web Ad.vantage’s core services include auditing & analysis of existing online tactics, Internet marketing strategy and consulting, social media consulting, and execution of search engine optimization, paid search (PPC) & online media planning/buying/campaign management. Most leads take in excess of 90 days to close once qualified and often the selling process requires a client-education/consultative approach. Average services exceed $10K per sale. Some travel and evening networking expected with expenses to be borne by the Business Development Manager unless previously approved by Web Ad.vantage management.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Executing the sales process including:
    • (Primary) Identifying, generating, contacting, qualifying and databasing/tracking your own leads
    • Communicating qualified lead opportunities to Web Ad.vantage principals and updating various agency Status and Pipeline files
    • Writing, delivering and/or presentation of detailed proposals and involving principals in pricing, proposal-writing &/or pitch when necessary
    • Following through on prospects with the goal of closing the sale
    • Closing the sale (with or without the involvement of Web Ad.vantage principals)
    • Provide ideas and feedback to Web Ad.vantage principals and marketing department with regard to new product opportunities, product pricing, etc. based on competition, market developments, feedback from prospects, etc.
    • Work with the Web Ad.vantage marketing team to develop strategic plans in support of sales efforts
    • Support Web Ad.vantage principals or inside sales staff with sales efforts as needed
  • Meeting/exceeding assigned sales quotas
  • Participation in Web Ad.vantage new business cultivation activities (e.g. trade shows, seminars, conferences, etc.)

Required Skills & Personal Traits:

  • A strong background in the consultative selling of high-dollar Professional Services or Software with a proven track record of meeting/exceeding sales quotas based on self-generated leads and the ability to close those leads. Resilient, persistent, goal-oriented personality.
  • Fluency with the Internet, preferably in the field of online marketing and advertising.
  • Strong network of contacts at executive level (CEO, President, V.P. New Business Development/Ecommerce/Sales & Marketing). Contacts within Web Ad.vantage target verticals a plus.
  • Must demonstrate a problem-solver mentality; ability to anticipate and think critically; provide creative solutions to meet prospects’ needs.
  • The ability to write well-crafted proposals using Word and PowerPoint
  • The desire to improve oneself or internal systems & processes
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ambition combined with patience
  • Overnight travel is minimal
