Yahoo is currently testing RSS syndication technology that will enable users to automatically receive news feeds from third parties in their MyYahoo web pages. Yahoo is currently testing the application internally and could not confirm when it would offer the service to My Yahoo users. Apparently on Monday, RSS feeds showed up on public My Yahoo accounts but were then taken down, causing quite a stir.

Using Really Simple Syndication (RSS) technology, which is widely used with content publishing, syndicated blogs and discussion threads, the technology would enable MyYahoo users to transport feeds from other content sites onto their personal web pages, where their tailored Yahoo content already lies. The outside links then direct the reader to content on third party pages.

RSS is an XML format used for sharing headlines, images, content, and links between different web sites. In the context of syndication, RSS is used to notify other sites of news stories that they can easily link to without having to manually program such information. Knowledge of HTML or XML is not required, just some simple copying and planning. For the benefit of our readers, we’re going to lay out the steps to implementing RSS now.

With Yahoo’s My Yahoo RSS confirmed and Microsoft taking steps to include an RSS news aggregator on their new browser, this gives web content publishers even more reason to create and market their RSS news feeds. Many industry analysts also predict that RSS will take the place of email newsletters as an opt-in only form of company to member or user communication. Yahoo and Microsoft’s developments have helped to legitimize RSS and there predictions may prove certain later in the year.
