Web Advantage Logo
Posted By Hollis Thomases on Apr 2nd, 2004

Washingtonpost.com, always a forerunner in the web publishing world, today launched its new ad unit, the Homepage Marquee, via its site. Marriott International and American Airlines are the first to take advantage of the space.

Positioned on the right-hand side of washingtonpost.com’s homepage, the large ad space boasts the same dimensions as the “half page” ads which run on article pages. Marketers particularly like the size of the new ads because they can efficiently present brand messages.

“The large amount of space offered by the Homepage Marquee allows advertisers to produce brand ads that very effectively grab the attention of users,” stated Washington Post’s Caroline Little. “[It] creates a large and compelling advertising experience without infringing on the user experience or editorial space.”

Washingtonpost.com further reports that “the ad takes advantage of the fact that most users have adopted higher screen resolution settings that create unused space within their Web browser.”

The new Homepage Marquee can be viewed (easily) at washingtonpost.com’s homepage or at http://www.washingtonpost.com/marquee.
