The value of the word “FREE!” in marketing has still not lost its touch. In fact, with the Internet, you can communicate free offers more easily than ever before. There are plenty of sites out there dedicated to freebies (for example FreeCenter), but today’s marketing tip is going to focus on taking it up a notch.
We’re not talking about just cheap give-away items or gimmicks. If you want to market your site, your service or your product, try giving away something of value to your specific target audience.
For example, as a web marketer, we offer one free hour of consultation. Typically, that hour is spent on the phone - for us it’s a way to pre-qualify our prospects (do they really have a budget? do they really have a plan? what are their expectations?), but for the prospect, it’s essentially a way for them to get free ideas from us, pick our brains or get comfortable with who we are and the services we offer.
Likewise, for targeted prospects, we will undertake a free web site analysis for them and then send it to them with a list of our recommendations for improvement. This type of approach almost always elicits a response!
So, take a moment to look at your own arsenal and relate what you have to offer to who you’re trying to attract. Then post it on your web site and on listservs, add it to your meta description tag, incorporate it into your signature files, and send the offer out via email, direct mail, fax, or whatever way you can! Just remember, the more worthwhile and focused the offer, the more valuable your visitor!
