The updated, newer version of MSN will not only look a little different to its users, but will include a new-fangled eBay option called “My eBay,” announced the two Internet giants on Wednesday.
Within the new MSN will be access to eBay functionality, content, and links, allowing users to manage their accounts on eBay from one convenient and accessible page; this can be done from the popular “My MSN” page. It is the first time ever that the “My eBay” feature is extended into a portal environment.
Jeff Housenhold, vice president of Internet marketing for eBay, stated, “Many of our 85 million users are passionate about trading on eBay and want to stay informed about real-time activity related to the items that they are buying or selling on our site.”
He also stated that the numbers of visitors going to both the MSN and eBay sites are very similar and go hand-in-hand. This is highly evident judging from a November 2003 study done by Nielsen/NetRatings. According to the data, 82 percent of eBay site visitors also visited MSN.
The integration between MSN and eBay, an outgrowth of a multi-year agreement made by the two companies in June, will allow for customers to be more efficient online.
“Together, we will help our collective customers stay connected with their eBay activities while enjoying the many offerings of the Web’s leading portal site,” said MSN vice president Richard Bray.
The updated version of MSN will include, among other things, a new home page for broadband customers, a new customizable home page including over 150 content modules, and a new broadband video service that includes free content from NBC, Discovery, and Showtime.
Founded in 1995, eBay boasts millions of items across thousands of categories for sale on any given day. eBay enables trade on a local, national and international basis.
