After boasting an impressive fourth quarter for 2003 in notebook sales, Dell released its new laptop, Inspiron XPS, geared toward video game aficionados on Thursday.
Now available on Dell’s web site, the notebook will provide users with exceptional power, sounds, and graphics by way of the following: Intel Pentium 4/Extreme Edition Processor, Mobility Radeon 9700 graphics card with 128MB memory, six-speaker system with a subwoofer, 15.4 inch screen and a DVI port, announced Dell representatives to IDG News Service.
Moreover, all users will have the option to purchase newer graphic cards when available, ensuring that their systems do not become outdated. And rather than customers mailing off their computers to the company, Dell technicians will install the cards on-site.
Although not the first company to offer a laptop for gamers, Dell hopes to appeal to potential customers not only via the Inspiron’s first-rate system properties, but also by offering appealing QuickSnap kits. These kits allow users to personalize their notebooks with snap-on covers available in Plasma (red and black), Cipher (green and purple), and Skullz (black and white skull with bones). There is even a backpack accompanying one’s purchase of the Inspiron.
Some more quick tidbits about the XPS system and what it includes (for those of you who know your stuff):
- 60GB or 80GB hard drive
- 512MB to 2GB of DDR RAM running at 400 MHz
- DVD-RW drive
- Four USB 2.0 ports
- IEEE 1394 port
- S-Video out port
- One PC Card slot
- Gigabit Ethernet port
- 56 kbps modem
Weighing in at nine pounds, the XPS can run from one to one-and-a-half hours on a single charge, stated Dell marketing manager Ketan Pandya to IDG. In addition, it will run with Windows XP.
