In past marketing tips, we have stressed the importance of creating original content for your web site or e-mail newsletter. Original content both keeps your site or newsletter fresh and your readers interested and coming back for more. Great content doesn’t do any harm in building your site’s reputation as an online resource either.

Researching and writing great content can be time-consuming on your part, though. Besides publishing this great content on your site only, what can you do with it afterwards? How about distributing your content to other sites who are looking to license and/or reprint targeted, original material?

There are various methods of distributing one’s content online, and if your content is targeted towards a specific niche market, you probably have a revenue generator on your hands! For instance, one online content marketplace is DotContentStore.

DotContentStore specializes in content written specifically for the Web. Columnists provide exclusive articles and DotContentStore then trys to get its customers (web site owners) to purchase the rights to use the articles. This can be anywhere from one month to multiple months, depending on the contract the customer agrees to. DotContentStore charges web site owners a monthly average of $100.00 for each column per web site and columnists receive a 40% royalty for every appearance of their column. DotContentStore’s target markets are commercial, special interest, and business web sites.

How do you become a content provider for DotContentStore? Basically, you have to pitch yourself to them. They will want to know why your column will succeed, if there is demand for it, why you are the perfect person to write it, and if you will stick with it over the long haul. If you’re interested in providing content for them, check out the FAQ page for columnists.

When dealing with syndicating your content online, one of the most well-known and largest Internet syndicators is iSyndicate. They provide content to the likes of sites like RollingStone.com, CNet, and Salon.com.

Another great service for distributing your content, both online and in traditional media, is NewsUSA. NewsUSA is a hybrid between a newswire and content distribution service. They basically distribute news-ready content and radio scripts to a nationwide list of newspapers, radio stations and web sites. Unlike DotContentStore, NewsUSA charges the content writer for such targeted distribution.

Of course, one of the easiest ways to distribute your content is to contact web sites directly about doing so. Some of the best targeted online e-zines and news sites are always on the lookout for good extra content. Contacting site publishers and sending them a sample of your original work is one of the best ways to get your foot in the door. Remember to use proper email etiquette, however, otherwise, your message will be deleted before you an even make your first impression.

Last but not least, we invite you to our Internet Marketing Resource Directory’s Content Distribution category to find more infomation on distributing your content online.
